Try as you may but you will never be able to escape the impact mathematics has on you.

Today marks the beginning of National Mathematics Week.  Are you ready?  School life, for many, would be so much more fun if mathematics was not a subject.   Too many people are afraid of mathematics and your icon could be one of them.

It is increasingly more obvious that a strong foundation in mathematics is crucial to an individual’s success as well as that of the society. Mathematics is more than numbers.  “It is the science that deals with the logic of shape, quantity and arrangement. Math is all around us, in everything we do. It is the building block for everything in our daily lives, including mobile devices, architecture (ancient and modern), art, money, engineering, and even sports.” https://www.livescience.com › Tech

Whether you fancy mathematics or you do not, we are requesting that you avail yourselves this week to join us in helping your icon to develop the appetite for mathematics and to integrate it in their daily lives.

All Things Numbers

Here are a few things you can add to your list of activities for this week.

• pull out your tape measures, measuring cups, scales… and find a way to use to have fun with your icon.
• count everything, from their underwears to the number of stars they can identify in the sky at nights.
• count using all types of patterns
  • by 1’s
  • by 2’s
  • by 5’s
  • by 10’s, 20’s, 25’s 50’s. 100’s, etc
• explore weights and measures
• compare shapes, lengths, greater than, less than and equal amounts
• incorporate saving, budgeting, sorting money, etc

 

As per usual, we are depending on you, our parents to play your part on this journey.  We trust that all the icons have their folders will sufficient, relevant worksheet to participate in our daily activities this week.
